I think the vinegar thing has something to do with fermentation. Face it: if we had given US goverment workers enough booze years ago, they’d have been too shitfaced to declare war. Then again, if we had enough we’d all get out of military service for alcoholism and nobody could go in the first place.
Was it Fanny Brice who said, Alcohol is essential: a little for you, a lot for your audience.

I completely agree with the position that soaking US foreign policy in vinegar may make it more palatable, especially if it is the same sort of vinegar that is used to make bullshit cucumbers into delicious gherkins.
Dilled foreign policy, however, may leave a bad taste in the mouth.
